Unchoosable is a slang term the state given to creatures that can't be chosen by abilities. However, they can still be attacked and blocked as normal.

The ability can also be known as "Untouchable".

Details[]

This ability is featured in many variants but is most commonly found in the Light Civilization.

Mecha Del Sol
3500

■ When you put this creature into the battle zone, choose a race other than Mecha Del Sol. Each creature of that race gets +4000 power.
■ Whenever your opponent would choose a creature in the battle zone, they can't choose this one. (It can still be attacked and blocked.)

An unchoosable creature can't be selected as a target of an opponent's ability. As most forms of commonly used removal require a single target to be chosen (e.g. Terror Pit, Aqua Surfer, Father Earth), untouchable creatures can easily make the removal cards useless.

However, they can still be affected by removal cards that don't choose a specific target that either affects one or both sides of the battle zone at once (e.g. Super Spark, Apocalypse Day, Funk, Guard of Hope). They are also vulnerable to cards your opponent may play that cause you to choose the creatures (e.g. Necrodragon Abayo Shabayo, Olzekia, General of Decapitation), bypassing the ability completely.

Due to the strength of this ability protecting them from most removal, many creatures with the ability have lower power and can be dealt with cards that allow them to attack untapped creatures.

Some versions of this ability only prevent the creatures from being chosen by spells.

Some high power creatures with an unchoosable ability such as Last Storm Double Cross, the Super Awakened or Asteroid Mine, Light Comet are used in control deck types as a finisher card.

  • It is likely based on the Magic: The Gathering keyword ability of Hexproof which reads (This permanent can't be the target of spells or abilities your opponent's control.)
