Rulings[]
General Rulings[]
- When a creature can't be summoned, you can't declare or attempt for it to be summoned. This also prevents you from using abilities that would occur as the creature is summoned, and the cost can't be paid.
- For example, if you were unable to summon creatures through an effect, you would even be unable to summon Dorhakaba, Final Forbidden Delta and remove seals from your FORBIDDEN STAR ~World's Last Day~ even though you want to remove seals.
- As you are unable to summon, you can't use declare the summon of or use the abilities of a creature such as BAKUOOON Mizzail to destroy your own creatures.
- While Galaxyshield isn't a summon, it is an ability that can only be used when the creature with the ability can be summoned, so it is prevented by a summon lock effect.
- Abilities such as "Shield Trigger, Strike Back and Ninja Strike each "summon" a creature as they resolve. These abilities can't even be declared when there is a summon lock.
- For example, if there was a creature such as 5000GT, Riot in the battle zone that prevents cratures being summoned that have less than 5000 power. In this case, you can't declare the usage of a creature such as Ragnarok, the Clock even as a "Shield Trigger".
- This means that, even if 2 of your shields were broken at the same time and they contained Spiral Gate and Ragnarok, the Clock, even though you could put the 5000GT, Riot into its owners hand, as you were unable to declare the usage of 'Ragnarok, the Clock' as the shield was broken, it still can't be summoned into the battle zone.
- For example, if there was a creature such as 5000GT, Riot in the battle zone that prevents cratures being summoned that have less than 5000 power. In this case, you can't declare the usage of a creature such as Ragnarok, the Clock even as a "Shield Trigger".
- Creatures with abilities such as "Mana evolution" or "Graveyard evolution" are "put" into the battle zone, so aren't affected by summon lock, unlike regular evolution creatures.
- Cards such as Heaven's Gate or Inferno Gate that "put" creatures into the battle zone from other zones can also be used as they are also a "put" and not a "summon".
- Abilities such as Invasion, Revolution Change and Revolution 0 Trigger that put creatures into the battle zone can still be declared and used.
- Therefore, even if your opponent had Inka, Karma's Curse Crest in the battle zone, you can still declare and use the Revolution 0 Trigger ability of Bolshack Dogiragon.
Difference of "Instead of putting" and "Can't put"[]
There are some Lockdown abilities that are written as "Whenever a [type] would be put into the battle zone, put it into their owners' graveyard instead." (Landing Replacement Effect) and "Can't put".
- With both of these effects, abilities such as "Shield trigger", Strike Back" and "Ninja Strike" can be declared.
- For example, assume your opponent has Dorago the Great, Dragon World in the battle zone. A creature such as Ragnarok, the Clock could be declared, but if it was to be put into the battle zone, it would instead be put into your graveyard and its abilities wouldn't trugger. However, if 2 of your shields were broken at the same time, and they contained Spiral Gate and 'Ragnarok, the Clock', then you can declare the usage of both cards. By first returning 'Dorago the Great, Dragon World' to your opponent's hand, you are able to resolve the summon of 'Ragnarok, the Clock' as well as its Come Into Play ability of ending the turn.
- Even if your opponent had 3 or more cards in their hand when they attack with Meteorshower Auroratheater, and 2 of your shields revealed 'Spiral Gate' and 'Ragnarok, the Clock', you are still able to declare the usage of both cards and have them resolve by returning the 'Meteorshower Auroratheater' to your opponents hand in the same manor.
- Even if you can't put a card that costs 5 or less or it would be put into another zone due to a "Landing Replacement Effect", if you attempted to summon a creature as Dorhakaba, Final Forbidden Delta, you are still able to play its cost and remove a seal.
