Category for Star Evolution

Star Evolution is an evolution keyword.

Details[]

It only appears on cards with the Star Evolution Creature card type, which is exclusive to creatures with the RexStars race.

It is the same as regular evolution keyword where you evolve over a single creature of a specified race or civilization, but when the Star Evolution Creature would leave the battle zone, only the top card leaves instead.

Reminder Text[]

The latest reminder text for Star Evolution reads:

Star Evolution: Put on one of your RexStars or "CIVILIZATION" creatures. (When this creature would leave, the top card leaves instead.)

Example[]

5 Bolshack Momoking
Jokers  / Armored Dragon / RexStars
Fire
Star Evolution Creature / 6000+
■ Guard Strike (When you add this creature from your shield zone to your hand, you may reveal it to your opponent and choose one of your opponent's creatures. That creature can't attack this turn.)
Star Evolution: Put on one of your RexStars or Fire creatures. (When this creature would leave, the top card leaves instead.)
■ Powered breaker
■ While attacking, this creature gets +2000 power for each fire card in your graveyard.

Cards with the Star Evolution ability[]

Rulings[]

  • Q: How do you use "Star Evolution"?
    • A: It is used in the same methods of a regular evolution creature. You put the creature on top of a creature that has the specified race of civilization. source
  • Q: What kind of ability is "Star Evolution"?
    • A: When the card with the ability would leave the battle zone, only the top card leaves instead. The cards underneath stay in the battle zone. source
  • Q: When using the effect of Team Tech's Wave Go! that says, "Return all your opponent's cards that cost 5 or less in the battle zone to their owner's hand" what happens to Bolshack Momoking that has "Star Evolution" above Cocco Lupia GS?
    • A: The evolution source, Cocco Lupia GS, remains in the battle zone, and only 'Bolshack Momoking' is returned to the hand. Although both 'Cocco Lupia GS' and 'Bolshack Momoking' would be returned to the hand due to the effect of 'Team Tech's Wave Go!', the "Star Evolution" replacement effect of 'Bolshack Momoking' prevents Cocco Lupia GS from being returned to the hand, so it stays in the battle zone. source
  • Q: If Bolshack Yamato Momoking evolves onto a fire Gacharange Creature with an attached Aura, what happens if the 'Bolshack Yamato Momoking' leaves the battle zone?
    • A: Instead, the attached Aura will leave. Due to the replacement effect of "Star Evolution", the topmost card of the creature's structure is the one that leaves. source
  • Q: If the Star Evolution creature of Bolshack Yamato Momoking attacks and I declare the Revolution Change of Dogiragon Buster, Blue Leader can the creatures be "switched"?
    • A: No, it can't. A "switching" effect like 'Revolution Change' can't be used if not all of the cards that make up the creature to be switched can return to the hand. In this case, due to the replacement effect of "Star Evolution," only the 'Bolshack Yamato Momoking' leaves, while the evolution source remains. Therefore, the switch fails, and 'Bolshack Yamato Momoking' continues its attack as normal. (Comprehensive Rule 701.26) source
  • Q: If Heavy, Dragon God and Metal, Dragon God are linked and in the battle zone, and Bolshack Momoking evolves on top of them, when only the top 'Bolshack Momoking' leaves and the evolution source creatures remain, do the linked cards stay linked?
    • A: No, only one of the creatures remains in the battle zone. When you put the 'Bolshack Momoking', you must decide the order in which the evolution source cards are stacked. When 'Bolshack Momoking' leaves and the rebuilding occurs, the top card of the stack (either 'Heavy, Dragon God' or 'Metal, Dragon God'.) remains in the battle zone as the creature, while the other remains underneath. (Comprehensive Rule 801.1b) source
  • Q: If my Bolshack Momoking NEX is destroyed due to the replacement effect of my opponent's Skull Moon, the Enlightened's "when destroyed" effect, can I keep the evolution source creature on the battlefield due to the "Star Evolution" effect?
    • A: Yes, you can. The 'Star Evolution' effect allows the evolution source creature to remain on the battlefield even if 'Bolshack Momoking NEX' is destroyed. The replacement effect of 'Skull Moon, the Enlightened' triggers when 'Bolshack Momoking NEX' is destroyed, and 'Star Evolution' replaces this occurring with the effect of keeping the evolution source creature on the battle zone. source
  • Q: If I have Beethoven, Zenith of "Horror" and Bolshack Momoking NEX in the battle zone, and 'Bolshack Momoking NEX' is about to be destroyed, which takes priority: the "Eternal Omega" given by the ability of Beethoven, Zenith of "Horror" or the 'Star Evolution' replacement effect?
    • A: The "Star Evolution" replacement effect takes priority. Replacement effects are resolved in the order in which they are applied, but in this case, "Star Evolution" will be applied before "Eternal Omega". This means that instead of being destroyed, 'Bolshack Momoking NEX; will have its evolution source remain in the battle zone due to "Star Evolution," and the ability to give "Eternal Omega" won't have an effect on this situation. source
  • Q: In a situation where my opponent's Gyou Kinari, The Wicked Evil is in the battle zone, and I put Dangerdeon (Ragma Star) into the battle zone, my opponent uses its "When you put" ability instead. If the opponent chooses this 'Dangerdeon (Ragma Star)' with that ability, will only the topmost 'Dangerdeon (Ragma Star)' be put into my mana zone due to "Star Evolution"?
    • A: Yes, only the topmost 'Dangerdeon (Ragma Star)' will be put in the mana zone. The "Star Evolution" replacement effect applies, causing only the topmost card to be put into your mana zone, and the evolution source card will remain in the battle zone. This happens regardless of the opponent using the "When you put" ability. source [2021.9.24]
  • Q: In a situation where my Intense Boiling! Onsen Gallows is in the battle zone, I summon Evo Lupia and put it into the battle zone. Using Evo Lupia's "When you put" ability, I stack Octopa (Kernel Star) on top. Then, when the "When you summon a Water or Fire creature" ability of 'Intense Boiling! Onsen Gallows' triggers and attempts to put Octopa (Kernel Star) on top of the deck face up, only the topmost card is put due to the "Star Evolution" replacement effect. Afterward, can the Octopa (Kernel Star) that was put on top of the deck be put into the battle zone?
    • A: Yes, it can be put into the battle zone. When doing so, it must be put on top of a suitable creature that it can legally evolve onto. source [2021.9.24]
  • Q: If I cast the spell side of Linkwood, Explosive Dragon Ruler / "I'm your opponent, The=Deadman!" on Bolmeteus Momoking and equip Gaiheart, Galaxy Greatsword with its effect, when 'Bolmeteus Momoking' would leave the battle zone, is the "topmost card" that leaves due to the "Star Evolution" replacement effect the equipped 'Gaiheart, Galaxy Greatsword'?
    • A: No, the card that leaves is 'Bolmeteus Momoking'. Since a Dragheart Weapon isn't part of the creature's composition, the topmost card remains 'Bolmeteus Momoking'. If a creature remains in the battle zone after rebuilding, the equipped 'Gaiheart, Galaxy Greatsword' stays equipped as well. source [2021.10.22]
