Shield Addition is a term given to cards that put additional shields into your shield zone.
Details[]
It is mostly found in the Light Civilization, only rarely appearing in the Nature Civilization. It was an ability featured prominently on the DM-10 and DM-26 cycles of Dual Civilization multicolored creatures that had a mana cost of 5 and 2000 power.

As a game is won when you attack your opponent while he has no shields, adding additional cards into your shield zone can be quite advantageous.
It is usually used as a countermeasure to beatdown and rush decks that attempt a quick win. As each shield is later put into your hand, chances to use Strike Back and Shield Trigger abilities also increase.
Compared to a creature that has Blocker, it can be less efficient dealing against creatures that have a Double Breaker ability or more.
The cost of the ability in a cards design is set higher than draw or Mana Acceleration. Unlike your hand or mana zone, the shield zone is designed as a zone where cards decrease while the game progresses.
Attention needs to be paid to cards such as Skysword, the Savage Vizier or Almeric, Prophecy Elemental that put cards from the top of your deck into your shields to prevent deckout.
Creatures with a Shield Go ability that go into your shields when destroyed can be seen as a form of Shield Addition.
There is no limit (other than running out of cards from your deck) to the amount of shields you can have in your shields zone. However, as decks are limited to 40 cards, it would seem difficult to ever over have 35+ cards in your shield zone at the same time (even with your opponents help).
The ability of swapping shields from your hand and cards already in your shield zone is seen in the Water Civilization and is known as "Shield Exchange".
Looking at cards such as Raza Vega, Thunder Guardian or Mystic Inscription from earlier released sets can show the highly estimated cost added to cards with a Shield Addition ability.
In the The Rise of Kings, card text of Shield Addition and Shield Feed cards were changed to use the Shieldify keyword action.
