■ Whenever a card is put into your shields, you may reduce the cost of the next light card you use by up to 3 less this turn. It can't cost 0 or less.
Sabaki Z (When a Judgment Emblem is added to your hand from your shields, you may discard that card. If you do, you may summon this creature for no cost.)

Cards with the Sabaki Z ability[]

Rules[]

  • The ability of Sabaki Z on Judgment Emblems can be used while either face up or face down in the shield zone.
  • The ability is similar to Strike Back, but that ability triggers as card is added to your hand as a static ability. This ability is a Trigger Ability that occurs after the cards are added to your hand. Therefore, even if multiple shields are broken and there is a card with Sabaki Z and a Judgment Emblem is among them, you can declared its usage without any problems, which is a big difference and advantage compared to Strike Back.
  • It is able to interrupt a spell or ability while it is resolving. This is the same for Strike Back.
    • As a technique, when you cast Tenseino Seisai Zett and add a Judgment Emblem to your hand from your shields with its effect, you can immediately summon Zett, Kiramekuseisen with Sabaki Z. Then after you cast the 'Tenseino Seisai Zett' is put face up into your shield zone and the effect of 'Zett, Kiramekuseisen' puts a card into your shield zone, the next light card you would use that turn costs 6 less.
  • Since it is discarded from the hand, it works well with creatures that have abilities that require discard. For example, if you declare Sabaki Z and discard a Judgment Emblem that costs of 5 or less when you have Changethe, Dragon Armored Ship / Fourth of the Six Bizarre ~Earth Breaking Waterfall~, so if it was first discarded card in that turn, you can cast a spell from your graveyard. (However, in this case, Judgment Emblems are only put face up on your shields when they are cast from your hand, so Judgment Emblems you cast from your graveyard stay in your graveyard.)
  • If you able cast a spell from your graveyard or mana zone with an ability that allows you to cast from those zones, you can cast a spell with this ability from that corresponding zone as well. This is the same as Strike Back.

Rulings[]

  • Q: How do I use the Sabaki Z ability of Zett, Kiramekuseisen?
    • A: When a Judgment Emblem is added to your hand from the shield zone, you can discard it to use the card to summon it from your hand for no cost. The card can be added to your hand by any means such as breaking or due to the ability of another card. The Strike Back text refers to the moment when the card is added to your hand, when this ability refers to the card already being added to your hand. This allows you to use the Sabaki Z ability of a card you discarded with Strike Back at the same time. source [2019.7.2]
  • Q: My opponent has Siegstorz, Holy Plate Dragon in the battle zone. I added 2 face up Tamashiugatsu Kouseino Seisai Zett into my hand at the same time. Can I discard any of the 'Tamashiugatsu Kouseino Seisai Zett' and cast them with the Sabaki Z ability?
    • A: Yes, you can cast them. The Sabaki Z ability triggers after being put into your hand. source [2020.12.15]
  • Q: My opponent has Jogiragon and Johnny ~J's Journey~ in the battle zone. After I use Triguard Charger and put a Judgment Emblem into my hand with its effect, can I discard that card and declare the usage of that card? (see also: Strike Back)
    • No, you can't declare the usage of Sabaki Z. Your opponent's effect prohibits you from only casting one spell each turn, so you can't discard or declare a card while its prohibited. source [2021.9.24]
  • Q: When Genmu Emperor, Infinite Dragon is in the battle zone, when I add a card from my shield zone to my hand, can I use the Strike Back ability of a spell that costs 5 or less from my hand? (see also: Sabaki Z)
    • A:You can declare the usage of Strike Back from discard the cards from your hand. However, as their effects are ignored, as a result of the resolution, nothing will occur and they will be put into the graveyard. However, if the Genmu Emperor, Infinite Dragon was removed from the effect of Shield Trigger effects of other spells at the same time, the other abilities on standby can resolve without issues. source [2022.6.3]
  • Q: When my Liliang, Mysterious Light had 0 power and was destroyed, I used the Escape ability to add a shield to my hand. As the power is still 0, it will be destroyed again. What happens if I wanted to discard the card added to my hand with the Escape ability for Strike Back? (see also: Sabaki Z)
    • A: In that case, before the 'Liliang, Mysterious Light' is destroyed again, discard the card that was added to your hand with the Escape ability and declare the usage of the Strike Back ability. After declaring it, you can continue to add the next shield to your hand with "Escape" while waiting for the effect to resolve. Repeat this process until you run out of shields or choose not to add any shields to your hand. Any Strike Back abilities on standby can be be resolved in any order after 'Liliang, Mysterious Light' is destroyed and put into your graveyard. source [2022.12.16]
