Dmwiki.net: | Article |
Mono-Darkness control is a monocolored control deck type.
Details
The Dragon Saga block enforced this type of control deck with the strong cards that have "Mana Arms" which appeared.
After discarding your opponent, Upheaval can be used to deprive them of their mana. Besides that, Dias Zeta, the Temporal Suppressor and Ryusei In The Dark can be used as finishers. While the deck lacks the flexibility of the Water and Nature civilizations, cards with early strong Mana Arms abilities such as Demon Wolf, Howling Moonlight Castle and Tigermite, Bomb Devil make up for it.
Jenny, the Suicide Doll and Tigermite, Bomb Devil are the best choices for early discard, as they can be later re-spammed via Intense World! Shachihoko Kaiser's effect. Besides that, the removal of Dias Zeta, the Temporal Suppressor and Black Ganveet, Temporal Soldier can also be used. Ganveet is also good due its synergy with discards.
Batou Shoulder, Shadow of Fiction and Doterabara, Phantom Mirror can be used to disrupt spell casting while Duema Ogre! Kikuchi, Assistant Instructor and Kareiko, Karma's Banned Technique interfere with Mana Acceleration and For No Cost.
Since there are many ways to use this concept, Volg Thunder Deckout strategies can also be adapted. Because Upheaval had been restricted, Hyperspatial Raiden Hole can be added to put out Volg Thunder and Cheval, Temporal Demon Spirit into the battle zone as finishers.
If you manage to put enough psychic creatures into play, you can add Storm Genji Double Cross, the Super Temporal as an additional finisher. In the end, as long as you can stall until 5 turns or more, you can always take control via Demon Wolf, Howling Moonlight Castle.

Weaknesses
Evidegoras, Dragon Sonic Aircraft Carrier is a natural enemy of this deck due to its continuous draws that make discards useless. Its Dragsolutioned form, Q.E.D. Plus, Final Dragon Logic only makes things worse. The only way to remove it is Dias Zeta, the Temporal Suppressor whose effect is unreliable.
One has to be careful when using Upheaval, for if they don't have enough cards in their hand or a strong battle zone built, it can be in their detriment. As such, Tigernitro, Explosive Devil's strong discard effect is recommended to ensure Upheaval works.
Trivia
- DMD-19 Super Victory Deck: Annihilation Dragon Sword Diabolos seems to be built around this concept, although adapting Demon Wolf, Howling Moonlight Castle to it is required to make it work at its full potential.
- It is the first mono-civilization control to distinguish itself in the metagame, though its lack of Card Based Removal is an issue against Dragheart or D2 Fields.
