It is a deck type that was created since the beginning of Duel Masters. It grew in prominence after the release of Zamaru, Treasure of Darkness in DM-14 Generate Gear and was assembled in a rush/beatdown style focusing on lightweight creatures and Card Discard.

The Psychic Shock introduced powerful Hyperspatial spells including Hyperspatial Revive Hole and Hyperspatial Vice Hole and other Card Discard cards. During Dragon Saga, it was strengthened by the Mana Arms ability, with a control deck being born and appearing in the metagame.

Mono Darkness is very powerful in the Dragon Saga era, but fell out of favor due to Welcome Hell, Supreme Devil King Palace's restriction. However, Dormageddon X, in some way is Mono-Darkness after the restrictions so it is not fully gone.
