Mana Number is a gameplay characteristic of a card.
Details
It is displayed by an upside-down number (seen at the bottom of the card) that indicates the amount and civilization of mana that is created when that card is tapped in your mana zone.
The mana number of a card is usually 1 or 0, although there are some exceptions that can alter the mana number to other amounts such as 2 or 3.

Nature![]() Gaia Command | ||
12000 | ||
■ When you tap mana to summon this creature, the mana number of Gods in your mana zone becomes 2 instead of 1. (Tapping a God to summon this creature generates 2 mana instead of 1.) ■ When you put this creature into the battle zone, you may return any number of Gods from your mana zone to your hand. ■ Your Gods each cost 3 less to summon. They can't cost less than 1. ■ Triple breaker (This creature breaks 3 shields.) | ||
6 Original Brain | ||
---|---|---|
Water![]() | ||
■ When you tap mana to cast this spell, the mana number of Origins in your mana zone becomes 2 instead of 1. ■ Look at the top 4 cards of your deck. Put up to 2 of them into your hand and the rest on the bottom of your deck in any order. | ||
4 Pure Original | ||

Light![]() | ||
4000 | ||
■ This creature can't attack players. ■ When you tap mana to summon this creature, the mana number of Origins in your mana zone becomes 2 instead of 1. | ||
Each Light Water Darkness Fire Nature card with each of the 5 civilizations has a mana number of 0, while other cards with 1-3 civilizations have a mana number of 1.
If a card with a mana number of 1 is in your mana zone, you can create one mana by tapping it.
While the 5-civilization cards provide no amount of mana when tapped, you can add any civilization of mana when you tap them.
After the release of DM-34 Cross Generation, a situational where the mana number of a card can be 2 was started.
- Heracles, Birther of Gods changes the mana number of Gods in your mana zone from 1 to 2 when they you summon it.
- The "Original" creature cycle (and one spell) changes the mana number of your Origins from 1 to 2 when you play them.
There are no cards that have an original mana number of 2.
Cards with Supertypes such as Psychic or Dragheart don't have mana numbers because they don't stay in the mana zone.
With Frog, Jumping Jack you are able to produce mana from creatures in the battle zone outside of the mana zone, and the amount and civilization of mana created are still determined by the mana number.
- Even if the mana number becomes 2 or 3 by the effect of Binge-Eating Giant, only one civilization of mana can be created by tapping a card.
- You can't use a card that costs 1 mana by tapping a card with a mana number of 2.
- Many players refer to the mana number as "mana symbols" due to influence from Magic: The Gathering.
In DMRP-08, the text on multicolored cards regarding them being put into the mana zone tapped, i.e.;「マナゾーンに置く時、このカードはタップして置く。」 (This [CARDTYPE] is put into your mana zone tapped.) was reduced to 「タップしてマナゾーンにおく」 (Put into your mana zone tapped.) and placed around the mana number of a card.
