In contrast to Splash Queens, a previous race of feminine sea creature, the design of this race is similar to the art style of Snow Faerie.

- In fiction, Merfolk are often referred to as "half-fish men," while mermaids are often depicted as having the upper body of a human and the lower body of a fish, as typified by Ariel in The Little Mermaid
. - Creatures with "Mermaid" in their name were previously seen on Lagoon Mermaid (a Splash Queen) and Iron Mermaiden (a Jokers).
