Landing Replacement Effect is a term for the Replacement Effect of putting a creature in another zone "instead of the battle zone".

Details[]

It first appeared on King Alcadeias, Holy Gaia in DM-26 Dragonic Wars, but also on other creatures such as VAN Beethoven, Zenith of "Shura" and Ballom Quake, Lord of Demons.

It prevents creatures from being summoned as well as being put into the battle zone for no cost.

It can only be bypassed by methods such as degenerate or by other replacement effects due to the "Double Substitution" rule.

Rules[]

  • It can't prevent creatures that are put into the battle zone by other replacement effects.
  • If you try to put a creature from your hand into the battle zone and its put into your graveyard by a Landing Replacement Effect , its not treated as being "discarded" from your hand.
  • If you try to reanimate a creature in your graveyard, it stays in the graveyard. Creatures such as Iwashin, One Man Army that trigger when they are "put into the graveyard from anywhere" don't trigger.
    • However, if you tried to summon them from another zone and they put into your graveyard, the ability triggers.
  • During normal evolution, when you try to put the evolution creature in the battle zone, the Evolution Source stays in the battle zone. This is because the Replacement Effect occurs before the evolution creature enters.
  • During abilities such as Mana Evolution or Graveyard Evolution, as you put the evolution creature on the evolve source as you put the creature into the battle zone, the evolution source follows the zone that the evolution creature is substituted into with the Landing Replacement Effect .
  • The keyword action of summoning can't be stopped, and effects that would accompany it can't be stopped either. For example, Overdrive abilities can be used without issues, and BAKUOOON Mizzail can destroy your own creatures to reduce its cost. In addition, the removal of FORBIDDEN STAR ~World's Last Day~ and the Dragsolution of Evidence, Truth Gun still work.
    • The Replacement Effects for being "put into the graveyard" such as the Overdrive ability of Shallot, Knight of Valor can't be used against the ability of King Alcadeias, Holy Gaia as the ability is a Replacement Effect.
    • However, abilities that trigger "whenever you summon" or "when you summon this creature into the battle zone" don't trigger as the creatures aren't put into the battle zone.
  • When a creature with Graveyard Evolution or Mana Evolution is put into the battle zone, even if the evolution source would be affected by the landing replacement effect, as they are treated as not being in the battle zone while underneath a card, they are are unaffected and the evolution is still successful.
  • In the case of effects such as The=Deadman, Dragon Ruler that allow the player to summon a creature by replacing the cost, the act of summoning itself is not affected by any replacement effect. Therefore, according to the rules, the landing replacement effect would still trigger for the summoned creature.
  • A creature that is not subject to the landing replacement effect when it is in a specific zone other than the battle zone, but is subject to the landing replacement effect when it is in the battle zone, will not trigger the landing replacement effect when it enters the battle zone from that zone.
    • For example, if your opponent has King Alcadeias, Holy Gaia in the battle zone and a Courtney, Summer Breeze Faerie that turns a card in the mana zone into a multicolored card in the battle zone, and a player puts a creature from their mana zone that was originally a monocolored card using Soulswap or a similar effect, the creature will enter the battle zone without triggering the landing replacement effect of 'King Arcadias' because it's treated as a multicolored card in the mana zone.
      • However, when a player summons a creature from their mana zone that was originally a monocolored card, the summoning process takes place in the Preservation State, and then the creature enters the battle zone. Therefore, the creature is outside the range of Courtney's effect, and when it is put into the battle zone, the landing replacement effect of "King Arcadias" will trigger, causing the creature to be put into your graveyard.
  • Conversely, a creature that isn't subject to the landing replacement effect on the battle zone but is subject to the landing replacement effect outside of the battle zone will trigger the landing replacement effect when it enters the battle zone from that zone.
    • When your opponent has King Alcadeias, Holy Gaia in the battle zone, if a creature that becomes multicolored (due to the addition of civilization such as Princess Zenobia, the Blackened) is put into the battle zone, it will be put into the battle zone as it isn't yet affected by static abilities such as Princess Zenobia.
      • However, The Verde, Rainbow Sonic is a 5-civilization multicolored card while in the graveyard, so can be put it into the battle zone from the graveyard while King Alcadeias, Holy Gaia is in the battle zone.
  • As they are an effect that interferes with switching, abilities such Revolution Change or Jokers Change will fail with a landing replacement effect, and the replacement itself won't occur. Therefore, the attacking creature doesn't leave the battle zone and the intended change target doesn't leave their zone.

Rulings[]

  • Q: I have 8 cards in my mana zone and my opponent has a Segare, Bei B in the battle zone. With the "Whenever this creature wins a battle" ability of ACE-Yamata, Eight-headed Dragon / Mystic Treasure Sword, can I put Amaterasu Kiriko, Divine Song Diva that costs 8 from my mana zone into the battle zone?
    • A: No, you can't put it into the battle zone. Due to the Replacement Effect of 'Segare, Bei B', the 'Amaterasu Kiriko, Divine Song Diva' stays in your mana zone and the 'Segare, Bei B' is put into your opponent's mana zone by it's own effect. The cards you were about to put out of the mana zone by an effect doesn't count against the number of cards in your mana zone. source [2021.11.19]
  • Q: I have no darkness creatures or darkness creatures in the battle zone. Does the landing Replacement Effect of my opponents Dorago the Great, Dragon World "Whenever a non-dragon creature would be put into the battle zone" or Alcadeias Momoking's "Your opponent's first creature each turn is put tapped." trigger when I put Jashin, Abyssal Ruler into the battle zone?
    • A: Yes, they trigger. 'Jashin, Abyssal Ruler' is a 'Tamaseed / Creature' outside of the battle zone, so even if you have no darkness creatures or darkness tamaseeds in the battle zone, effects that substitute a creature being put into the battle zone will still apply. source [2022.9.9]
