- This card is named after and based on the character of Jace Beleren, from Magic the Gathering, the sister-series of Wizards of the Coast. He is a human planeswalker who is incredibly intelligent and adept with blue (Water) magic, capable of such talents as clairvoyance and illusion. He is also a member of the "Oath of the Gatewatch", a group of planeswalkers dedicated to protecting the multiverse.
- This creatures race follows this, as he is a "Hero" (due to the Gatewatch group) as well as being a "Planeswalker".
