■ Evolution—Put on one of your light creatures. ■ When you put this creature into the battle zone, you may add the top card of your deck to your shields face down. ■ Double breaker (This creature breaks 2 shields.) |

Fire / Forbidden Impulse |
■ This impulse starts the game in the battle zone with 6 seals on it. ■ This impulse can't leave the battle zone. ■ Forbidden Liberate: When this impulse has no seals on it, flip it to its creature side. (When you seal a card, put the top card of your deck on that card face down. Whenever a Command is put into the battle zone, its owner puts a seal from one of their cards that has the same civilization as that Command into their graveyard. While a creature is sealed, both players ignore that creature.) |
Without other card abilities, cards that are face down can't by looked at. The only known information is the number of face down cards.
- Without the same sort of abilities, you are also unable to change the order of your deck or shields.
By default, for a card that reveals cards but doesn't mention the state a card should be placed in after their effect resolves, the cards are put back face down.
- For example, after the 3 cards are revealed by The Universe Gate, each card is put back on the top of your deck face down in the order they were previously in.
A seal that is face down in the battle zone is treated as a cost of 0 for the purposes of Card Based Removal.
- Card types that have a Psychic, Dragheart, Forbidden and Zeron supertype are considered to have "face down" state.
DMEX-18 introduced Testa Rossa, Red Laguna, a creature that is able to put a card from the top of your deck underneath itself face down for the first time.
DM23-EX3 introduced "Crystal Mana" abilities that can put cards in your mana zone face down (such as Crystal Charger).
- This includes abilities that use face down cards as a Destruction Replacement effect (as Eternal Kappa and Crysternal Kappa) and Cost Reduction (as Crystal Soul) or required an amount of them in your mana zone to trigger their abilities (as Crystal Arms).
