Evolution Creature is an Evolution creature card type.

Details[]

The card type was introduced in DM-02.

Each Evolution Creature features a rotating, star-like icon next to the 進化クリーチャー (Evolution Creature) text written on their card type line in the Card Frame as well as the Evolution icon evolution icon appearing in the creature's artwork.

To summon an Evolution Creature, pay its cost and then put it on top of a creature that it specifies it evolves from.

  • Typically, an Evolution Creatures has the requirement of evolving from creatures that share a race or a civilization, but there are exceptions such as if the evolution creatures involve 2 or more creatures at once. Evolution Creatures aren't affected by Summoning Sickness and can attack on the same turn they are put into the battle zone.

It is recommended to put an Evolution Creature on top of a creature that is weaker than the Evolution Creature itself. This includes effect, power and cost. For example, if you want to summon Bell the Elemental, you may put it on top of Nam=Daeddo, Bronze Style because it is a weaker creature, but don't put it on top of Saurpio, Ancient King as it is a much stronger creature and doing so only causes waste.

Rulings[]

(See also: Rebuilding for when the top card of an evolution creature is removed.)

  • Putting an evolution creature is the same as putting a creature except you can only put an evolution creature into the battle zone when you have the correct type of creature (whether it needs a specific race, civilization, or ability) already in the battle zone. The evolution creature tells you what the creature it evolves from needs to have.
  • When you put an evolution creature, put it on top of the creature that it evolves over. That creature is left underneath the evolution creature, but ignore any effects, power or other characteristics it might have. Only the evolution creature's name, abilities, civilization, and power are relevant.
  • Evolution creatures don't get summoning sickness even if the creature they evolved from had summoning sickness, so you can attack with them immediately after you put them into the battle zone.
  • There's no limit to the number of evolution creatures you can put on top of each other.
  • An evolution creature is put into the battle zone in the same tap position as the creature it's put on. If it's put on a creature that is untapped, it's untapped. If it's put on a tapped creature, it enters the battle zone tapped.
    • If it evolves on one or more creatures, if any of those creatures are tapped, the evolution creature is put into the battle zone tapped.
  • If an evolution creature is moved from the battle zone to another zone, then the whole pile moves, not just the evolution creature on top. As long as the evolution creature is in play, it and the card it evolved from count as only one card. As soon as the pile ends up somewhere other than the battle zone, they are separate cards again. So if a card effect tells you put your evolution creature into the mana zone, you get that many separate cards in your mana zone.
    • However, when a card underneath the evolution creature is removed, the evolution creature itself remains in the battle zone. If only the top card of the evolution creature is removed (by an ability such as Dias Zeta, the Temporal Suppressor or Royal Durian), the player controlling the evolution creature can only have the same amount of creatures under it equal to the number of creatures required for the evolution, and the rest into your graveyard. For example, if the top card of Zeek Cavalie, Lord of Dragon Spirits is removed, one of the creatures under it stays in the battle zone and the rest goes into your graveyard. Super Infinite Evolution is exempt from this rule since it has no designated number of evolution source. Evolution creatures and linked Gods can be counted as 1 creature. Also, removing the top card now counts as targeting the creature itself, and will trigger effects that involve the creature being targeted/leaving the field, etc.

Trivia[]

  • There are 2 forms of the Evolution ability that don't have a keyword: Blocker evolution (a creature that can be evolved on a creature that has the Blocker Blocker keyword) and Dual evolution (a creature that can evolve on a choice of 2 different races).
