Esmeralda is a character who only appeared in the Fighting Edge series of the Duel Masters manga.
Details[]
She is a young Duel Master from Spain. Since she usually wears glasses and a hat to hide her appearance, she is seen as unattractive, but beneath it all lies a truly beautiful person. Despite not conveying her feelings to him, she still loves Shobu.
Esmeralda has never appeared in the anime. However, her strategy is featured in DMX-21 Masters Chronicle Pack: Comic of Heroes and she appears in the artwork of Phoenix Life.
Plot[]
Her parents were killed in one of Zakira's masssacres.
Three years prior to FE, during the invasion by the Fua Duelists, she was saved by Shori Kirifuda but lost her legs in the process, resulting in her use of artificial legs. Up until the end of FE, she used a wheelchair, but after the final duel, Dr. Root transplanted her real legs onto her body. After Richie's defeat, she traveled with Shobu to Egypt.
In Egypt, they invaded Thoth's fortress and she was found by a robot and escaped, only to do battle with Zakira. Although she was able to hold her own against him using Ultimate Galaxy Universe, when she only had a single creature left to trigger the Meteorburn for it's alternate win condition. Zakira used Supernova Apollonus Dragerion against her and broke all of her shields. She then cast a Holy Awe by a shield trigger ability but that caused Zakira's Magnum, Allshot Puppet's ability to trigger which caused her Ultimate Galaxy Universe to be destroyed and forcing her to surrender. She was then captured only to be saved by Dr. Root, although she was cursed in the process and can't duel.
After Shobu's victory against Zakira, Dr. Root gave her prosthetic legs and she regained mobility. However, those legs are taller than her body.

She uses a 4-color deck using the Light, Water, Darkness and Fire civilizations based on the Phoenix race.
