Challenge of Black Shadow is the 4th booster pack in the OCG.
Details[]
The main theme of the set involves the conflict of the Light and Nature civilizations against the Darkness and Fire civilizations, in particular the battle between the Light army led by Alcadeias, Lord of Spirits and the Darkness army led by Ballom, Master of Death.
As such, the set has a heavy civilization focus with many Light and Darkness cards (such as Milieus, the Daystretcher or Purple Piercer) being "hate cards" for the opposing civilization.
- Cards in the Nature civilization offer support for Light cards, while cards in the Fire civilization offer support for Darkness cards.
- Water offers support for both the Light and Darkness civilizations, being an Allied Civilization for both (such as Aquan).
This set also focuses on cards with abilities that affect another civilizations, based on their Allied Civilizations.
- The Light and Nature civilizations (such as Exploding Cactus and Sword of Benevolent Life).
- The Darkness and Fire civilizations (such as Blasto, Explosive Soldier and Sword of Malevolent Death).
- Water with the Light and Darkness civilizations (such as Aquan).
Due to the focus on this battle, instead of the usual balance of card in the Set contents between civilizations, there are 15 cards each for both Light and Darkness (and 10 cards each for the other civilizations).
Alcadeias, Lord of Spirits and Ballom, Master of Death is seen on this booster pack illustration.
This set has an English equivalent, DM-04 Shadowclash of Blinding Night.
