Cards with an increased Mana Cost won't be able to be used without the higher number of cards in your mana zone, negatively affecting the Mana Curve of a deck.
Typically, because it is a strong ability many of the cards affect both the opponent and yourself. The abilities also tend to be limited in scope of the cards they affect, such as a specific civilization or spells. For this reason, they are usually treated as meta-cards.
- It is similar to Mana Burn, but as additional cards can be put into the mana zone, it is easier to overcome.
- Alephtina, Spiritual Princess is a card with a demerit that increases its own summoning cost based on the number of your shields.
- There is an opposing term of Cost Reduction that reduces the cost of your cards.
