Anywhere Zone is a term used as an unofficial zone.
Details[]
It's used as a temporary zone for the processing a card, which is special processed when a card is moved between zones until a card has finished its Resolution. It is sometimes known as the "resolution area" or "stack".
It is the zone used when a spell is currently resolving when a spell is cast.
- Effects on cards such as Cyber G Hogan or Parlock's Miracle Fever are considered to use this zone temporarily while they are resolving.
- When the card moves between zones, this zone isn't specified by the ability of the card in any way. For example, Duema Ogre! Kikuchi, Assistant Instructor and its interaction with Justice, Elemental Left God. While Justice is looking at the top 5 cards of your deck in order to cast a spell, it doesn't trigger the ability of Duema Ogre. However, after the spell is cast and put into your graveyard, the ability of Duema Ogre can trigger as the card a seen as being "moved from the deck to your graveyard".
- The position of this zone on cards isn't specified. For example, spells being resolved are often put into the battle zone during a game in the sense that are being "played".
- Although it doesn't have an official name for the zone, it is thought of being "outside the game", distancing itself from the other 7 zones.
- On the other hand, there are places in which the this "zone" exists so there is contradictions in the rule.
- It was mentioned by the "Duel Masters General Game Rule" document.
List of cards that refer to "Anywhere"[]
While "anywhere" isn't treated as a single zone, certain cards do refer it for their abilities, to signify when a card would be put into a zone other than the zone specified. For example, Azami, Heavy Baby has an ability that triggers when your opponent would put a card into their mana zone from "anywhere" (any other zone, including; deck, graveyard, battle or shields). other than their hand (the specified zone).
Rulings[]
From the Duel Masters - General Game Rules: Version 1.42 (June 19 2024)
- 409. Preservation State
- 409.1. Whenever you use a card or put a card into the battle zone as an effect, the card is put on standby until it actually moves from one zone to another. Even if the card is put on standby, it doesn't leave the zone.
- 409.1a When you use a card that is put into the battle zone such as a creature or when you try to put it into the battle zone as an effect, the card is on standby until it actually moves from one zone to another.
- 409.1b A spell is on standby from the time it is cast until the effect is resolved. After its completed resolving, the spell being cast is put into your graveyard.
- 409.1c While a card is on standby, it belongs to the zone it was originally in, but it doesn't count as a card in that zone.
Example: If you have a 'Magmadragon Ogrist Vhal' in the battle zone, and you cast a 'Energy Stream' as the last card in your hand, the power of 'Magmadragon Ogrist Vhal' is immediately changed to 0, and it is destroyed before the card-drawing effect resolves.
Example: If you cast 'Emergency Typhoon' from your hand and would discard a card from your hand due to its effect, you can't discard the 'Emergency Typhoon' itself.
Example: If you have 4 cards in your mana zone and your opponent has 'Yadoc, Beast Army' in the battle zone, when you summon a 'The Verde, Rainbow Sonic' from your mana zone, the number of cards in your mana zone becomes 3 while 'The Verde, Rainbow Sonic' is in a standby state, so the replacement effect of 'Yadoc, Beast Army' is applied.
- 409.1d After a card that is on standby is no longer in a standby state, it loses the effect that was given to it before it was in the standby state.
Example: If you use a card that has the effect of 'You may use it from your graveyard this turn' from your graveyard and the card is later put into your graveyard again, you can't use the effect again.
Example: When you summon a creature that has been given the effect from 'Goemonkey! Snake-Handed Boss' from your mana zone, if that creature stays in the mana zone due to the replacement effect of 'Yadoc, Beast Army', you can't summon that creature from your mana zone again.
- 409.1e Multiple cards may be used at the same time by one effect. In that case, all cards used by the effect are put in a standby state, and then processed one at a time.
Example: When you cast 3 spells by the effect of 'Kiriko Cubic, First Model Dragon Emperor', all 3 spells are put in a standby state, and then resolved one at a time.
Example: When you put 7 cards into your graveyard with the ability of 'Dueland, Transformation of Dreams', after all the cards are put in a standby state, they are then resolved one at a time.
- 409.1f Multiple cards may be put into the battle zone at the same time by one effect. In that case, all cards used by the effect are put in a standby state, and then processed one at a time. However, if multiple Seals are put into the battle zone zone, after they are all put in a standby state, they will be attached to the creatures inn the battle zone at the same time.
Example: When you put 2 creatures in the battle zone with 'Heaven's Gate', the 2 creatures will be pu into the battle zone one at a time after being put in a standby state.
Example: If all creatures in the battle zone are sealed with the effect of 'Dokindam Apocalypse', they will be attached at the same time.
- 409.2. Even if a card that has been put in a standby state isnt moved to another zone as a result of using a card or resolving an effect, the card will no longer be in standby. The state of the card will not change from before it was put into the standby state.
- 409.2a If a card in a standby state is put back into the zone it was originally in, it doesn't mean the card has been moved into that zone. Any abilities that would trigger when a card is put into the zone won't trigger and the state of that card won't change.
Example: When you cast a spell from your graveyard with the 'When you put' effect of 'Way Wave', the spell you cast is put back into your graveyard as a result of resolving, but any abilities that trigger when a card is put into your graveyard will not be triggered as a result.
Example: If you summon a 'Mystery Hippo' that is tapped in your mana zone and then the effect of 'Yadoc, Beast Army' is applied, the 'Mystery Hippo' will remain tapped in your mana zone even after the replacement effect is applied.
- 409.2b Replacement effects that apply when a creature a spell is put into your graveyard also apply when a spell you cast from your graveyard is put back into your graveyard. This is an exception to 409.2.
Example: If you cast 'Kenzen Charger' from your graveyard using the 'When you put' ability of 'Way Wave', when 'Kenzen Charger' would be put into your graveyard, the Charger ability puts it into your mana zone instead.
- 409.2a If a card in a standby state is put back into the zone it was originally in, it doesn't mean the card has been moved into that zone. Any abilities that would trigger when a card is put into the zone won't trigger and the state of that card won't change.
- 409.1. Whenever you use a card or put a card into the battle zone as an effect, the card is put on standby until it actually moves from one zone to another. Even if the card is put on standby, it doesn't leave the zone.
