Adds Civilization is a characteristic fixing ability.

Details[]
It is a term given to cards that add additional civilizations onto your other cards or creatures in a specific zone.
The first appearance of this ability was in DM-13 Eternal Phoenix, with Courtney, Summer Breeze Faerie.
2 Courtney, Summer Breeze Faerie |
---|
Nature / Creature Snow Faerie 2000 |
■ Cards in your mana zone are considered to be cards of every civilization. |
3 Erus Elixion, Dyed Sky Guardian |
---|
Light / Creature Guardian 2000 |
■ Each of your water and nature creatures in the battle zone are also light creatures. |
6 Gordnov the 5th, Demonic Eyed Death Dragon |
---|
Darkness / Creature Zombie Dragon + Knight 7000 |
Blocker (Whenever an opponent's creature attacks, you may tap this creature to stop the attack. Then the 2 creatures battle.) |
As cards can also add civilizations to your creatures in the battle zone, they can have synergy with cards such as Cataclysmic Eruption or Hydro Hurricane that have effects based on having how many creatures in that battle zone you have with a specific civilization. It can also help prevent destruction of your non-darkness cards if you use a card such as Ballom, Master of Death
As Courtney adds civilizations to cards in your mana zone, it works well with Minmei, Beautiful Faerie and Breakable Dragon as all cards become multicolored. However, due to Stealth abilities or Mega Manalock Dragon, it can also be a disadvantage.
Cards where the civilization was first added to creatures in the battle zone appeared in DM-24 Violence Heaven with the Lilian, Dream Painter cycle.
Gordnov the 5th, Demonic Eyed Death Dragon is the first card where civilizations were added to cards in your graveyard. When conditions are met, Future, Mage of Cobalt is the first card where additional civilizations can be added to cards in your deck. There is no way to add civilizations to cards in other zones such as your hand or shields.
Due to cards in your mana zone getting all civilizations, a card such as Yuuko, Snow Cloth Faerie would require 5 cards to be tapped as each civilization needs to be tapped to use its Mana Reburst ability.
