Abaku Onifuda is a character introduced in the Duel Masters King season of the Duel Masters anime series.

Details[]

He is the leader of the Onifuda Overlord Coalition and the host (and best player) of the "King of Duematch" tourney. His goal is to take away the prized possessions and qualities of powerful duelists, with his motives currently being unknown.

He is associated with his secretary Connie and his subordinates Megane and Zancook, although Megane was later disposed because of his sheer incompetence. Connie is romantically attracted to him. Later on, he also has three agents: Kouki, Chouki and Saiki, who antagonize Joe's party. In the manga, Chouki and Kouki were brainwashed contestants of Abaku's tourney, while in the Anime, all three duelists start out as his agents.

Personality[]

Abaku can be considered a noble-but-ruthless duelist who hunts other strong duelists for unknown reasons. The stronger his opponent, the more ruthless and heated up he becomes. When battling such foes, he often contorts his face into creepy expressions. He might also give chances to people that he deems worthy for a second chance, but this will be limited; if someone under his disposal were to display incompetence, he disposes of them without question. He can also see a strong duelist that he can target just by looking at their appearance, and can easily sense foes with plans in their mind and facilitate a counter-strategy against them, no matter what.

Anime[]

Duel Masters King[]

A mysterious duelist who opened a tournament known as the "King of Duematch." His motives are largely unknown, and he seldomly acts on his own. In addition to being the tourney host, he has also been known to be the constant top player in it, defeating a swarm of duelists without fail. He also kidnapped Momo Uraraka to force Daichourou in joining his ranks.

In the first episode, he watched Megane and Joe through the screen. After their duel, he announced the King of Due Match" tournament who decides the "Duel Masters King".

During Episode 3, he dueled Kira and won effortlessly. Fortunately, Kira wasn't eliminated due to Onifuda granting him 20 points as a consolation because he deemed him worthy.

In Episode 15, after the Daichourou of the Nature civilization defects from him courtesy of Joe successfully saving Momo Uraraka (he only joined Onifuda because he wanted Momo back), Joe confronts him over Momo's hostage situation. He gives him a snide remark and backs off.

In Episode 17, he lent his trump card to Megane as a chance to have him reprimand his failures for defeating Joe. Unfortunately, due to the lack of a synergy with his Trump Card (That the cards choose their owners and they are not that strong if they were used by someone else other than their owners), he was swiftly defeated anyway, giving 500 points to Joe, enough for him to go to internationals (1002 Points). Since this was Megane's final chance, Onifuda disposed of him by sending him down a pit, then replaces him with three unknown black-hooded duelists to deal with Joe and his gang in place of him.

He hosts the world tournaments on the next episode, taking an interest with the black duelist. Despite Joe's party lost their reception passes because of Momoking inhaling the reception cards and they still managed to show up in the party anyway, Abaku never kicks them out despite his lackey insisted only to be driven away by Prince Smile. (Although since he lacked the physical reception pass, Abaku doesn't let him participate in the tourney.)

When Zero Jr. and Prince Smile duel, he can be seen spectating alongside Connie. He was impressed by Zero Jr.'s strength and wanted to recruit him after he defeated Prince Smile, although Zero Jr. refuses and coldly walks away. During that night, Joe vows to defeat him.

In Episode 26, Abaku was drafted to battle with Joe next. Realizing the sheer strength of his opponent, Joe watches in shock and he stares at him with a vicious gaze. Joe then tries to prepare with him, eventually realizing that he has to finish the host of the tourney and its strongest duelist in one go. At the same time, he explains his motives with Connie, telling her that he wishes to hunt down a duelist who was stronger than him—particularly those with King Master cards, and Joe was being one of them. Connie hilariously mistook him for trying to get the duelist he wants in an Idol Ring (with the images resembling the same Tokusatsu unit from Himitsu no Finale!) only to be angrily rebuked by her boss. Kira also offers to practice with Joe using proxy cards of Abaku's commonly used cards. Having been practiced, Joe goes into Abaku with a strategy in his mind.

On the next day, Joe confronts with Abaku as drafted. Abaku asks if Joe plots something because he looks hesitant, but he denies. After this, he uses Oniyose's Jutsu to summon Gokensai, Oni of "Outrage" and breaks one of Joe's shields, but Joe doesn't attack him at all and instead goes for his creatures. while distracting his attacks with Ganbare! Ganbungee. Abaku responds in the same fashion by summoning Fuujinten, Oni of "Gale" and attacking Ganbungee with Gokensai. Joe summons Momoking, Jonetsu Hero using Kirifudash, destroying Gokensai by attacking it twice, while planning an earnest attack on the next turn. Unfortunately, on Abaku's next turn, he summons Jaouga, Oniga Great King to return all of his shields to his hand, and his expressions become increasingly distorted in the heat of the confrontation. Abaku casts 2 Hyakki no Jaoumon in a row using Oniend to spam fatties (including a Goukensai) with all of them being high rarity cards that have their Onitime activated just because he removed all of his Shields with Jaouga. However, one of Joe's shields is a Momodachi Training!!!, destroying Bakurohoshi, Oni of "Musabori" and momentarily stopping Abaku's assault. Joe summons all three Momodachi only for Gokensai to force a Tap In and he orders Momoking for a direct attack against Abaku. Unfortunately, Abaku had a third Hyakki no Jaoumon on his hand and defeated Momoking with a Gashadodokuro, Oni of "Soul Hunting". With Joe's final assault halted, Abaku, in a seemingly Overkill move, destroys Monkid and Canbello with another Oniend; Hyakki no Tenjakaku and Fuujinten defeating Momodachi Kentnark, followed by a direct attack from Jaouga. In reality, he took down the Momodachi before direct attacking in order to avoid a potential reversal from Joe. Abaku tells Joe that he will be much stronger the next time he comes, and he will pummel him mercilessly next time they meet. (Joe wasn't eliminated in this match because it uses points to calculate rankings instead of directly the number of losses.)

Later on, he joins the finals while forming a tag team with Connie and an unknown figure (later on revealed to be Hyde).

      • Adam's goal was to flood the world and end all current and future wars, while Basara desired a World of Zero due to his distorted beliefs. Meanwhile, Abaku aspires to create a demon world driven by his own ambitions.
    • All three generations of the Kirifuda Family produced the highest level duelists who coincidentally defeated Adam, Basara, and Abaku.
    • Adam and Basara served as the final enemies in the Kirifuda family's adventures, and after their ultimate battles, both Adam and Basara underwent a similar transformation, shedding their former warped personalities and cooperating with the very protagonists they once fought against, Shobu, Katta and Joe.
